Library...bonkers over books like me?
What you'll find in The Romantic Mom.com
If you're bonkers over books like me, then kick those feet up and let's just have us a little chat--or should I say, a little "read." Go ahead, you won't hurt my feelings a bit. And I promise not to pester you (too much)!
These are some of my faves! And, of course, the children have added their's to the stack, too. Ya know, they all love books--especially the old classics with gorgeous illustrations and exquisite literary content that nobody seems to appreciate anymore. You think I'm jokin'? Go ahead, take a look, I am positively, absolutely convinced your little ones will be entranced... for hours on end...without exception!
Oh Look...We Love Our Books!
Children's Books & Illustrators
Classic Nursery Rhymes
This old classic was passed down to me by my mom. It has some simple old-fashioned illustrations. (Original copyright 1916)
(Right) Baby Animals by Kay Chorao and Nursery Rhymes illust. by Hilda Offen (too cute!)
Beatrix Potter Stories
We have the whole set plus the VHS and DVD's too! No childhood is complete without that naughty Peter rabbit, Tom kitten, and Jemima Puddleduck in addition to all the other wonderful critters!
Early Readers
I know the D & J series has taken some hits for being "look-say" rather than phonics based, but our kiddos have really enjoyed starting out with D&J and has been a confidence- builder (especially for my son). They moved on quickly and did sound out the words! I just love the family-centered stories!
(Below) The marvelous McGuffey's Eclectic Readers set (Primer - 6th Reader) just like Laura Ingalls had! They have yet to be improved upon! (copyright 1879)
Classic Pooh Stories
Please, do yourself and your kiddos a favor and forget Disney! The originals are delightful!
Christian Children's Books
Thomas Kinkade illustrated the Lord's Prayer and we were given this wonderful book, He is My Shepherd by David & Helen Haidle. It explains how sheep were actually cared for which gives a much deeper understanding of the Psalm 23 passage.
(Below) We all treasure the wisdom from Proverbs books by Elizabeth George--these are a MUST HAVE!
Children's Chapter Books
Anne of Green Gables Series
I'm going to have a whole page dedicated to Anne (with an "e"). We made the fairytale trip up to Prince Edward Island this past fall and have lots of wonderful photos to share!
Carl Larsson
Some more homestead favorites are the Carl Larsson illustrated books, A Home, and, A Farm. His depictions of Swedish domestic farm life in the late-1800's are so sweet they're captivating!
