Homestead is here...mooo....cluck...scratch...baa...what did I just step in?!!
What you'll find in The Romantic Mom.com

Homesteading is here and it's sure catchin' on--even  in some yuppified suburban neighborhoods and city rooftops! The homestead life is a great adventure. a blast for the kiddos, and a whole lot of work for Ma and Pa! But even in tentative small doses, there's a goodness...a wholesome-ness...about it that's highly satisfying and very addictive!

So tread carefully! You might just find yourself trading in those black pumps for some L.L. Bean High Heels...and don't even ask what you might be treadin' in!

Gardening

Toil the Soil, baby!
It's really where it's at! I had no idea that I could get gourmet salads,  fresh flowers, sun- drenched hair, a nice tan, and a great work out all wrapped up in one plot of dirt! And that Burt's Bees hand balm IS my best friend!

Animals

Depending on which noise it makes, you'll need the corresponding instruction manual-- unless, of course, you grew up with these critters. In which case you probably already know which needs what when, how, and where.

Country Kids

They're runnin' loose and whoopin' it up! They're everywhere all at once! They're open, they're free, they're as they should be!

Kitchen

And all that preserving. Is that PERSEVERING? No, that's PRESERVING as in your sanity...as well as in scrumptious tomatoes, veggies, fruits, and cheeses of all delicious varieties!

Going Green
alternatives without compromise

Clean and Green
(I love rhymes--it's my cheap thrill so humor me!...please?) It's the way of the future and there are some radical ideas floating around out there! We're bouncing around in green, green, and more green concepts and products ourselves right now. We're shoulders, neck, and head in green! In fact, we're so excited about green that we've started an entire web site dedicated to all shades of green because this is a new frontier--and we LOVE new frontiers! So check out Green Pioneer (see how that rhymes?) And don't forget the Green Pioneer blog!

Resident Homesteader

I stand in utter, unreserved, and unabashed awe of farmers and homesteaders. They are my Hollywood celebrities. I hang on their every word, look, stance, glance, and utterance. Why? Because they're not only horse whisperers, they're also chicken whisperers, goat whisperers, and cow whisperers. They can fix anything with baling twine. They never, ever sleep late and never, ever lose their sense of humor!

If that weren't enough, they possess a knowledge, wisdom, and character that renders me completely useless in about a nano-second. I become some  babbling, bumbling, wimpy, hair-brain in their presence...I realize that's not too difficult so we'll just stop there. Would you like our
Homesteader of the Month to whisper in your ear?

All of you rural, urban, and suburban homesteaders, simplifiers, and farmers...please send me a note! We'd also love to hear from sustainable farmers and gardeners outside the U.S.!
