Yesterday Heather gave mine and my friend, Jen Yarbrough's kiddos their first 'official' riding lesson. Leah and our little Heather were first...and oh my!...were they EVER excited! And I was excited about that mowed and hayed field of ours! Check it out!! : D

Getting tacked up....

And then ready to ride! Leah chose to ride Reno (below left) with the blaze on his face, and Heather was very pleased to get to ride Babe (the Bay) for her first lesson...

We put out 3 buckets and an orange cone to mark the 4 corners of their 'arena'...and here they are walking and learning some reining...

And to their delight, they got to practice some trotting and posting, too! Leah actually put Reno into a canter...much to her surprise!...but she stayed in the saddle beautifully!!

And Heather found Babe's easy jig trot there!

Later I got on Reno and, with some coaching from Heather, I was able to put him into the most wonderful collected trot...and very briefly...a canter as well. It was like floating on air! Magnificent! Now I know what I've been missing all my life!!

Girls and their horses...what could be more fun! : D

Heather:
We can't tell you how proud and thrilled we are for you. You look so tall and erect in the saddle--such a grown-up young lady, already. Where did our little girl go? You look very comfortable on the horse, and not afraid. Good for you. Maybe someday we'll get to see you ride. I'll bet Mommy and Daddy are glad to have the hay baled; looks like it's already in the barn, as I see no bales. Hope it didn't get rained on.

Happy trails,
Granddad and Grandmom

Heather,
What a delightful privilege to have riding lessons. Gabby rode once this summer in Virginia and I know she would love to have the opportunity you are enjoying. Posting on your first lesson--that's amazing. You look so good on Babe. Best wishes for continued equestrian skill and enjoyment.
Love,
Grandma

Heather, the cowgirl!
How lucky can you get! You sit the horse like you're familiar with the concept. GREAT! My, those are goodlooking horses--& I like your bay the best. And,by now, you've had a second lesson. Can't wait to find out how that goes--or will it be someone else's turn? Alexander & Angela have been taking lessons for a month now--all in a covered arena. But he hasn't taken them thru all that you've already done!
