A Tall Tale 07/22/2009
The photo below is looking out across the back...you can see all the clover and the tall wheat looking grass is the Timothy... And this is the temporary fencing we have set up for the horses. They're doing a great job of getting it tromped and eaten down. A solar charger keeps the fence 'live' and is really working out great. We've expanded this pen area to reach the far side of the log 'home'...that's not our home yet...but will be soon...we hope! I also put in this white fenced area on Monday next to the trees. It's a little closer to the road and higher up so there's a bit more breeze coming through...as well as some shade for the horses. It's this front area that I'm longing to get mowed down and looking more spiffed up again... The small birches make a great place to hang the lead ropes and fly spray. I scythed...or attempted to scythe anyway...a path over to the gate there. Scything is definitely easier said than done...or maybe I just don't get the knack of it! I end up doing way more grass 'pushing' than grass 'cutting' whatever the case! Harlow Post brought over their horse trailer yesterday. So now I'm going to work on Babycakes getting into said horse trailer. We'll see how that all goes. If it has food on one end of it, then hopefully it will be a non-issue for her. She has no problem walking up onto our porch...and has acted like she'll walk right into our house on occasion...so the trailer shouldn't pose too much of a problem for her....as we keep telling ourselves anyway. Nevermind the fact that it took her previous owner a couple of hours to load her up to bring her over here the first time...but she was only 2 years old...and it was pouring down rain...and hail...and she'd never been loaded into a trailer before. Minor details. So the idea is that Babycakes will be joining Babe and Reno some time this week...if all goes well! Which it will....I just know it will! I'm very good at convincing myself...now if I can just convince a pony! : D CommentsWed, 22 Jul 2009 08:45:08 Hello my dear friend!!! Wed, 22 Jul 2009 12:27:23 I think it looks wonderful, even if it IS in need of cutting! We definitely need to get us some land.... Wed, 22 Jul 2009 13:56:05 I hear ya Carole! Having this land is truly a blessing...even if it is a bit 'shabby chic' at the moment! I love the wild flowers growing in the midst of it all...and tiny birds flit from the tall grass stems. It's beautiful! I hope ya'll can find you a piece of paradise, too...to till and nurture and call your own! : D Wed, 22 Jul 2009 14:02:12 Hei Anna Lisa! So glad you received the package...and hope everything made it one piece! I especially look forward to seeing the prairie bonnet on Tuva! Klem!! : D Heather Wed, 22 Jul 2009 17:37:45 I'm telling ya...no need to convince that pony. Just convince yourself and march up to that trailer like she's gonna get on it and she probably will. Have someone shake a little grain from the window and she'll probably run you over to get in it. LOL!! Can't wait till she's over too and we can take her out on the trail. I just know she will be a perfect little lady...OK...maybe not perfect but pretty good. Hugs! mom Wed, 22 Jul 2009 18:38:36 Hello, again-- at last! What a great "horsey" blog! I'm excited that Babycakes is going to get to join some of her own kind--AND some that know about this "riding" thing. Sounds as if Heather knows horses__and their personalities. I agree that, if there's food involved, & B. KNOWS it--where the food is located will be of little consequence! Do hope some farmer got caught up enough on his stuff, to get YOUR first cutting done, by now. Will you store it in the friend's barn again? Leave a Reply |
