So here are the wee peeps at 2 weeks old...still adorable...but growing! This box was clearly too small so I simply cut a hole in this box then cut a hole in another box and added it to their abode...

At first they weren't sure what to make of this little hole...but it wasn't too long before they were popping in and out...back and forth...having a blast!

Peek!!

We also upgraded the waterer to one of those self-filling jobs....much more convenient. And simply placed a laundry basket over the top since they are stretching and flapping those little wings these days!

And voila! They have over double the square footage now! And yes...that is a crown decorating the top of that basket! I've been informed that this is their mansion! : D

My, how quickly the stumbling fluffballs gaain their feet & begin to feather! Inovative housing solution!!---&,indeed, it does look like a mansion compared to the quarters I've usually seen chickens living in! Guess HEN raising is becoming quite the thing in North Dallas neighborhoods. (roosters are banned!) The 'fixture' store, North Haven Gardens, is hopping onto the trend, selling the chicks, supplies, (& advice) to the homes who have the space to add chickens to their landscaped outdoors. They've also created a small custom coop, somewhat bigger than your boxes, with a protected portion opening to a fenced yard,(top & sides, maybe bottom?) but which is still light enough to be moved about the lawn to let the chicks safely get to green stuff. /seems hawks are a hazard, even there, without a human on guard. Meant to save the article for you, but that was a paper that got away.
